We're very excited to finally present our first tutorial featuring Facial Gua Sha! With the fast rise in popularity of Facial Gua Sha and so much love for the jade board as well as the jade roller, we thought you might like to learn about this technique from professionals who understand the depth of its background and use.

No doubt, we love Facial Gua Sha - and it is one of our many tools of Chinese medicine that we use to rejuvenate and restore skin naturally. Often referred to as a natural alternative to botox - it certainly stands in the ring with many conventional beauty treatments popular today. But, unlike these treatments it not only improves the appearance of your face and skin -  it amplifies your health so that you feel like how you look: amazing.

This tutorial is designed for you to follow along as you learn this basic version of this technique. We condensed our 2-hour hands on class that we teach here at our studio in Brooklyn, which gives so much detailed instruction to help our students get the most results out of this practice. But for our dear people who live too far and away to learn direclty from us, this video is our answer to you.

We anticipate there will be questions and a desire for more info. So stay tuned as we plan to offer live QA sessions on our Instagram to help you navigate this simple, yet also nuanced technique. In the meantime, make sure you follow if you want us to keep you posted.

Enjoy and feel free to write comments or questions below!

Great video! However, I’ve seen many Gua sha tutorials that recommended ‘clearing the lymph’ By scraping out to the sides and down towards the clavicle reservoirs... thoughts? Thanks!

This video features more of a lifting and sculpting technique - which is why it doesn't include the lymph draining stroke down. You can certainly include one downward reverse stroke at the end of each step (so it's 1 down stroke compared with several up strokes) to encourage lymph drainage. But Facial Gua Sha engages more than the lymphatic system - though many have come to think of it as primarily a lymph circulating technique. In fact it releases fascia, softens muscle tension, invigorates blood circulation as well. We tried to make this video as basic as possible so people can get the technique down which is why it doesn't include that step because we haven't found it to be absolutely necessary via the results we observe. By starting with the neck, as we've shown, you start to open the channels that allow lymphatic and blood circulation to improve and regulate. We plan to put out more videos that drill down deeper into each area: neck, jaw, eye, etc so we'll be discussing this notion of lymphatic drainage further as we help everyone move beyond basics to more advanced and complex layers of information.

Thanks for a lovely tutorial... I have seen many that start at the forehead and move down towards the neck... is there a reason why the Gua Sha is performed in reverse? I’ve seen the ‘scraping’ done in a downwards fashion on the neck. Also, in your most recent Instagram post, you mention performing cupping and Gua Sha on the same area... is the safe to do? What is the correct order? Thanks!

Thanks for this great video! So very helpful. By the way, how are you 43 when you look to be in your mid to late twenties?😊

I loved this video! I have seen so many videos on YouTube from people who have been trying this out for themselves, but I really appreciated watching someone who has been practicing this professionally for so long. I look forward to when your Gua Sha stones come back in stock to make this part of my new daily routine! Is this the one you use in your services at Treatments by Lanshin? I have seen so many different types of Gua Sha stones for sale. Can you please explain what makes an ideal Gua Sha stone (i.e. shape, material, etc.)? Thank you and I look forward to upcoming tutorials!

Great video! Is it important to massage the rest of the body before facial Gua Sha so that the pressure isn’t concentrated in the head?
